Investing in a natural resource
After being elected as Mayor in 2008, Valentin Vrabie began to create an economic climate for investors in renewable energy to reduce emissions and boost the local economy.
There has been considerable success with the development of a number of wind energy projects. One wind farm, with 30 turbines in operation, has addressed a number of social issues in an area of high unemployment and social problems.
Mr Vrabie said: “The wind is a natural resource that we can turn into income that offers a better life to our community whilst at the same time protecting the environment. We would like the European Union to facilitate and support the direct investors interested in developing businesses in renewable energy to ensure that their investments are on the right track.”
Brunel Pension Partnership (Brunel) is one of eight national Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) Pools, bringing together circa £30 billion investments of 10 like-minded funds.
The city of Bristol has been working on climate change and energy issues for over 10 years. With lots of successful projects completed already, it is moving forward to a new phase of action.
