Investing in a natural resource
After being elected as Mayor in 2008, Valentin Vrabie began to create an economic climate for investors in renewable energy to reduce emissions and boost the local economy.
There has been considerable success with the development of a number of wind energy projects. One wind farm, with 30 turbines in operation, has addressed a number of social issues in an area of high unemployment and social problems.
Mr Vrabie said: “The wind is a natural resource that we can turn into income that offers a better life to our community whilst at the same time protecting the environment. We would like the European Union to facilitate and support the direct investors interested in developing businesses in renewable energy to ensure that their investments are on the right track.”
Romstal provides products that reduce energy, water and greenhouse gas emissions.
In almost a decade since they became one of the first cities to sign up to the Covenant of Mayors, the city has taken strides to address their climate impact.
